The structure is mainly composed of vertical load-bearing components-columns, horizontal load-bearing components-beams, and bracing systems. Generally, the frame system can be built up to 6 floors with a height not exceeding 24 meters; the braced frame system can be built up to 12 floors with a height not exceeding 50 meters. As the number of floors and height increase, the steel frame structure often cannot independently meet the bearing capacity requirements. At this time, a composite structure of a concrete core tube and a steel frame structure is often used, which can utilize the high strength of steel and the high rigidity of the concrete core tube, achieving a perfect integration of the two.
Design Technique

Common design software includes professional design software such as PKPM and YJK, and software such as Tekla and Rhino for processing and lofting. The steel frame structure adopts the installation method of component hoisting. The general hoisting sequence is column → brace → beam, and the overall structure presents a stepped installation sequence. Before construction, a detailed construction plan is formulated, the construction sequence is planned, the crane performance is determined, and hoisting obstacles are avoided. Steel frame beams and columns are generally connected by high-strength bolts and welded connections. Torque wrenches are commonly used for high-strength bolts to ensure the bolt tightness, and the welding connection generally has a weld grade not lower than Grade II.

Compared with concrete frames, steel frame structures have the characteristics of light self-weight, fast construction speed, and good seismic performance. Steel has high strength and small component sections, and its self-weight is about 1/2-1/3 of that of concrete frames, reducing the cost of foundation treatment. Steel has good ductility and can absorb a large amount of seismic energy, making it suitable for high-intensity earthquake areas. The steel frame components have a high degree of factory prefabrication, and the on-site assembly efficiency is high. The construction period can be shorter than that of concrete structures.
